Launch of a new project for Greek-Beninese cooperation in Industrial Property

From 19/5-23/5/2025 the Greek Delegation of EPLO and OBI visited the competent authority of Industrial Property in the Ministry of Trade and Commerce in Benin, the National Liaison Structure with the African Intellectual Property Organization (SNL-OAPI).

The Greek and Beninese Delegation discussed on the current national framework and on the development of the next steps of the project based on the local needs assessment.

Furthermore, a very successful 2 day seminar was conducted at the premises of the University of Abomey-Calavi, addressed to local IP officers, researchers and students on the topics of Geographical Indications and Plant Varieties.

A national team of Key local officers participated in the working sessions led by Mr. Roufaï Adékambi, head of the SNL-OAPI, Ms. Sandra Ayayi, head of the Intellectual Property promotion desk at the Beninese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-Benin), and Mr. Ir. Codjo Gaston Ouikoun, research engineer representing the National Institute for Agricultural Research of Benin (INRAB).

The Greek team includes Mrs. Lola Lyberopoulou, Director of EU and International Projects in EPLO, Mrs. Lea Stavrou, Program Officer and Lawyer, Dr. Ioannis Kikkis, Senior IP EPLO Expert and Lawyer, Mrs. Katerina Margellou, Deputy Director General at Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation - OBI, and Mrs. Myrto Lambrou, Head of International Affairs at the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation (OBI).

The aim of this project is to support the capacity building of the local officers and to support SNL-OAPI in consolidating its role as a bridge between local innovators and global IP protection mechanisms, positioning industrial property as a strategic pillar for Benin's economic development.

The Project is funded by the Hellenic Industrial Property Organization- OBI and it is implemented by EPLO.
